SPECIAL ACTIVITIES FOR JUNE

 

Monday, June 23: Gyotaku Fish Prints

Experiment with this Japanese technique of printing fish. Class begins at 2:30 p.m. and is limited to 20 children ages 4 and up.

 

Tuesday, June 24: Ceramic Fish Banks

Design your own ceramic fish bank. Classes begin at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are limited to 20 children ages 4 and up.

 

Wednesday, June 25: Strawberries

Enjoy fresh strawberries from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

Thursday, June 26: The Nature Gang

Meet our new iguana “Iggy III” who’s growing up really fast! At 11 a.m., our Director, Dan Ellender, will let you pet our cockatiels “Lola” and “Maya” as well as learn all about their habitats and diets. We will also feed the fish.

 

Friday, June 27: Kinetic Sand Fun

Great mess-free sand that children can sculpt, stretch, mold and pull will be in the ArtSpace from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

 

Monday, June 30: Tambourines

Paint a tambourine! Class begins at 2:30 p.m. and is limited to 24 children ages 4 and up.

 

 

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES FOR JULY

 

 

Tuesday, July 1: Birdhouses

Paint a cute birdhouse to bring home and hang in your tree. Classes begin at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are limited to 20 children 4 years and up.

 

Wednesday, July 2: Ice Cream

Ice cream will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

Thursday, July 3: Lowe’s Workshop for Kids

Lowe’s employees will help children build a wooden project they can keep! Class begins at 11 a.m. and is limited to 25 children.

 

Friday, July 4: CLOSED for Independence Day

 

Saturday, July 5: CyPhaKids Get Animated

At 11 a.m., children will learn about Walt Disney and do some fun crafts involving Disney's Frozen! The program is limited to 20 children ages 4-10. However, if more than 20 children are expected, there will be a second event at 12 p.m.!

 

Monday, July 7: Giant Guitars

Make a cool giant guitar! Class begins at 2:30 p.m. and is limited to 20 children.

 

Tuesday, July 8: Tropical Fish

Paint a pretty tropical fish. Classes begin at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are limited to 20 children.

 

Wednesday, July 9: Popsicles

Enjoy a cool refreshing Popsicle from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

Thursday, July 10: “Teach Me! ABC”

At 11 a.m., local children’s book writer/illustrator Peggy A. Borel will read her book, “Teach Me! ABC.” Afterwards, she will have a book signing.

 

Friday, July 11: Experiment with Paint

Just come to the ArtSpace between 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and experiment with paint!

 

Saturday, July 12: Sasol’s Second Saturday Science Show

“What can you do with pressure?” Sasol’s Mary Idlett will perform experiments designed to show the cool things that can be done with pressure. Examples include: inflating a balloon with lemon juice and baking soda, the balloon blow-up challenge and the hanging water experiment. The show begins at 11:30 a.m.

 

Monday, July 14: Choose a Project Workshop

Choose to decorate either a plane or a jewelry box. Class begins at 2:30 p.m. and is limited to 25 children.

 

Tuesday, July 15: Choose a Project Workshop

Paint your own aboriginal boomerang or a Chinese fan. Classes begin at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are limited to 20 children 4 years and up.

 

Wednesday, July 16: Popsicles

Enjoy a cool refreshing Popsicle from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

Thursday, July 17: MAD HATTER Science

MAD HATTER, Joan Vallee Rettke will present “Exploring Science at the Beach!” Children will learn about wave motion and why we should wear sunglasses. Children will make a “wave in a bottle”. The program begins at 11 a.m. and is limited to 20 children 4 and up.

 

Friday, July 18: Pasta Necklaces

Stop by the ArtSpace between 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and make a pasta necklace.

 

Monday, July 21: Choose a Project Workshop

Choose to paint either a giant pinwheel or a Domroo drum. Class begins at 2:30 p.m. and is limited to 25 children.

 

Tuesday, July 22: Wooden Photo Holder

Classes begin at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are limited to 20 children 4 years and up.

 

Wednesday, July 23 Popsicles

Enjoy a cool refreshing Popsicle from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

Thursday, July 24: Story Time with Ms. Orchid

Orchid Robinson, from the Calcasieu Parish Library, will present “Make a Splash!” Story time will include books, songs, and activities related to water and hydrology at 11 a.m.

 

Friday, July 25: Spirograph Fun

Join us from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. in the ArtSpace and play with this classic geometric drawing toy that produces mathematical roulette curves.

 

Monday, July 28: Creative Beading

Join us at 2:30 p.m. for a beading workshop in the ArtSpace. Class is limited to 25 children.

 

Tuesday, July 29: Snakes and Lizards

Paint either a wooden wiggly snake or lizard. Classes begin at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are limited to 20 children 4 years and up.

 

Wednesday, July 30: Ice Cream

Ice cream will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

Thursday, July 31: Wild Life Conservation

At 11 a.m., Dan Everett and his Friends of the Refuge will talk about keeping the habitat of our animals clean. He’ll show different animal furs confiscated from poachers.

 

 

This Summer

 

Each day the Children’s Museum will celebrate SUMMER with something different!

· Creative Mondays will offer creative projects to take home in the ArtSpace at 2:30 p.m.

· Crafty Tuesdays will offer special crafts in ArtSpace Workshops at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

· Cool Wednesdays, children can enjoy a cool treat such as a Popsicle or fresh fruit from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

· Amazing Thursdays will offer unique programs at 11 a.m. with a special guest!

· Fun Fridays are from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

· Join us the first Saturday of every month for CyPhaKids at 11 a.m.

· On the second Saturday of each month, join us for Sasol’s Second Saturday Science Show at 11:30 a.m.!
