Here Comes the Sun!
In 2020, the building that housed the Children’s Museum of Southwest Louisiana sustained catastrophic damage from Hurricane Laura. Regrettably, many of our beloved exhibit areas did not make it and we were unable to return to our Broad Street location. Our facility is currently closed but the future looks BRIGHT!
Our new home at Port Wonder…
In 2018, we began working on our new home! We joined forces with the City of Lake Charles and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to bring the community a state-of-the-art complex that will offer family-friendly activities year-round. Port Wonder will house the Children’s Museum of Southwest Louisiana and a Science Center by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
On June 30, 2021, we officially broke ground on our new location on the north side of the lake along I-10 in downtown Lake Charles. This location will spur economic development and will drive tourism into the region. We are expecting to reopen in late 2023!
Here Comes the Sun…
Please help us prepare for our new home at Port Wonder. Here Comes the Sun is a vital campaign to support a galaxy of exciting programs, classes, camps and workshops in the Children’s Museum’s beautiful new home in Port Wonder on the Lake Charles lakefront. Your generous participation will enable us to deliver an exciting, educational curriculum of programs that engage kids in fun, interactive, hands-on activities that connect real-life and play experiences.

We appreciate your patience and support as we work on our new location. We will be "spreading sunshine" throughout Southwest Louisiana in the meantime. You never know what community event or venue we might pop up at next. Please continue to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
Our goal is to educate children through play and discovery while aiding in a child’s development and understanding of the world around them and encourage a lifelong passion for the arts and sciences. This includes exhibits, workshops, and other activities for the children's benefit.
We miss seeing you all and can't wait to share more details about our new facility. We will have more space to offer workshops, camps and programs that will allow children to explore, create and think about the world around them while learning new skill sets that will last them a lifetime. We will continue our mission and deliver year-round curriculum that engages kids in fun, interactive, hands-on activities that connect real-life and play experiences with learning!
