Our facility is currently closed, but the future looks BRIGHT!
Construction is underway!
Soon we will reopen our doors inside our new home at Port Wonder along the Lake Charles lakefront on North Lakeshore Drive and Interstate 10. We will have four brand new gallery experiences for visitors to explore. Each will have some of your beloved exhibits reimagination and some brand-new concepts as well! We will continue to offer special year-round programs and activities. We hope to bring fun and educational activities for all ages!
Next door or rather across our lobby, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is building new Nature and Science Center that will include freshwater and saltwater aquariums with interactives.
Here Comes the Sun…
Please help us prepare for our new home at Port Wonder. Here Comes the Sun is a vital campaign to support a galaxy of exciting programs, classes, camps and workshops in the Children’s Museum’s beautiful new facility inside Port Wonder. Your generous participation will enable us to deliver an exciting, educational curriculum of programs that engage kids in fun, interactive, hands-on activities that connect real-life and play experiences.

The Children's Museum Playground Exhibit
The Children’s Museum Playground Exhibit at Port Wonder will be a fully inclusive play experience for children of all abilities. This gives everyone an equal opportunity to actively learn, discover, and play alongside siblings, parents, and friends. Giving a child with disability whether that be a physical, a learning, or a mental disability the chance to feel included not only benefits the child, but it benefits the greater world around them.
Our project partners began fundraising efforts in July 2023 with a goal of reaching $800,000 by May 2025! Money raised will fund the playground equipment, padding, canopy shades, benches, and fencing necessary to ensure a safe environment for children to explore and enjoy an outdoor space created just for them. Please consider donating to this worthy endeavor so no child is left behind and everyone can play together while visiting the Children’s Museum at Port Wonder!
For more information, please email info@swlakids.org!
We miss seeing you all and can't wait to share more details about our new facility. We will have more space to offer workshops, camps and programs that will allow children to explore, create and think about the world around them while learning new skill sets that will last them a lifetime. We will continue our mission and deliver year-round curriculum that engages kids in fun, interactive, hands-on activities that connect real-life and play experiences with learning!
